Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
pricing depends on multiple factors- size, height, the type of wall material, interior vs. exterior, design detail and scope, etc. The more details you can share with me up front the faster I can get a quote to you. Most importantly, sharing a photo of the site will help me determine much of that.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically I like to discuss the scope and vision that the client has in mind, share with them my previous work and get an idea of what direction they want to move in. From there I can quote out the project, and explain the design process- which consists of digital renderings used to illustrate what the mural concepts will look like - using either site photos or architectural renderings where applicable.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I received my BFA from the Mass College of Art in Design, expanding upon my experience and education from a young age in fine arts. I have trained in and worked in variety of crafts & trades including scenic painting (as a member of Scenic Artist Local USA829) and architectural signage installation. I have worked with artists, galleries, curators and private collectors alike on a variety of art installations. Most importantly I actively collaborate with architects and interior designers throughout NYC to create custom murals that enhance spaces and work with architectural features both interior and exterior alike.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My combination of interest and love of painting along with my experience working at large scale in construction and alongside architects and designers led me eventually to branch out on my own and pursue mural painting.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with everyone from architects and interior designers, to brands, art advisors and curators, to small business owners and anyone who really who wants to explore livening up their space with large scale paintings and mural- its is often these private residential commissions that are the most fun and rewarding.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently, one project I really enjoyed in particular was painting a private residential commission for a client in NYC who wanted to transform his outdoor patio space with a full wrap around mural on the walls surrounding the patio.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would advise taking the time to look an artist's previous projects- to be open to exploring a variety of concepts, and to allow artists to work within the styles at which they are most confident they can deliver you the highest quality mural. Budget constraints may affect the realistic achievability of certain goals of course, and prices between artists may vary greatly depending on style / level of detail / skill level. I would say that clients should be prepared that good artists will likely not sacrifice quality standards to rush projects- and to be as flexible as possible with timing expectations- especially with outdoor murals, we are always at the mercy of the weather.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I would advise customers to have approximate dimensions of the wall or area where the mural is going prepared in advance. Photos of the site are always the most helpful. Given site photos, approximate dimensions, and a short conversation of the customers goal, the artist should be able to determine a reasonable scope and pricing for their project. Each project is unique, and artists are visual - the more site photos to share with us up front the better for both of us!
