Introduction

OpExcellence Facility Services, LLC (DBA OpExcellence Tree and Stump Pros) is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) tree service company focused on serving the ARK-LA-TEX Region. We believe our name says it all...we are about operational excellence. We realize that doing excellent work at a fair price keeps us in business. We are highly responsive and pay attention to the minor details that can be the difference between an average outcome versus an outstanding end result. We want our customers to be delighted every time we finish their project. We have an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist on our Team (Mr. Jonathan Brasfield), who provides subject matter expertise and consultation on tree-related projects. We have to be passionate about what we do and we are. We believe it shows in the quality of our work and ultimately in the satisfaction of our customers. We enjoy meeting great people and doing this work for a reasonable price, so that our customers can focus on what they would rather be doing. It makes for a synergistic relationship. As a SDVOSB, we appreciate the value of those heroes who serve others and who toil to provide essential community needs. For that reason, in recognition of the selfless service of our military, government civilian employees, teachers and educators, health care employees, police, firemen, and other First Responders, we offer a 5% appreciation discount off our project prices. This is our small way to give back to those you who give so much of yourselves to taking care of our communities.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Given that we provide services that are tailored to the unique needs of each customer, we do not provide a standard price list. However, we do ensure that there is mutual agreement on the written quote provided and an authorization from the customer to begin work before we start so that there are no surprises. What we agree on is what the customer pays with no hidden fees or charges...period.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
The most important thing in building a new customer relationship is being accessible and being a great active listener. We take the time to understand the customer's articulated and inferred needs and tailor our service to deliver against those goals. We use our substantial subject matter expertise to offer the broadest array of options and to ensure mutual understanding of the desired end state. We commit our pricing to a formal written quote with detailed line items through QuickBooks, which allows seamless conversion of estimates to invoices. It offers the customer the online convenience of making secure project deposits and payments using the form of payment of their choice. We offer dates of availability to perform the work and clarify what the expected timing for completion of the project will be so that the customer can plan appropriately. We provide instructions for any special needs, such as coordination with local utilities or with neighbors. Finally, we never begin work without a mutual acceptance of our offered pricing, as well as receipt of the customer's approval and Notice to Proceed. If it is a significant project, we will typically require a project deposit of 33% to 50% of the project total cost upon receipt of the Notice to Proceed. This ensures we have the operating cash flow to order materials and reserve any specialty equipment needed. The remaining balance is due ONLY AFTER the work has been completed. We generate payment receipts for all funds received from our customers to ensure 100% accounting transparency.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We have an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist on staff. This is the preeminent tree service certification available in the USA. He is licensed in Louisiana but regularly performs tree service in Texas and Arkansas, where no licensure is required.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been working part time in the tree service industry since 2009. However, I founded OpExcellence in 2014 after my medical retirement from the US Army became imminent. Having grown up on a farm and been cutting trees even as a teenager to heat our home, I really enjoyed tree work and being outdoors. So when I began researching post-military career options, becoming a tree service professional was a natural fit since I enjoyed this work. I also recognized that, if structured properly, it could be a profitable endeavor to create generational wealth, while using my arborist expertise to safely trim and remove trees to bring my customers peace of mind. Over 3000 customers later and counting, God has blessed me and the entire OpExcellence Tree and Stump Pros team with continued opportunity to perform this work that we are so passionate about doing, without any major safety or property damage incidents. To God be the Glory!! I relocated to Shreveport, LA in 2018, earned my Louisiana tree service license while also working for the US Dept. of Veterans Affairs. I left the VA in 2022 after getting my ISA Arborist Certification and have quietly been building OpExcellence Tree and Stump Pros ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have been fortunate to work with a wide variety of both residential, commercial, and government customers. These include corporations such as Wayne Holden & Company, TAK Communications, A.C. Moore, Michaels, Nest International, and Springwise Facility Services; government clients such as Bossier Parish EMS, the City of Shreveport, and the Port of Baltimore; and non-profit organizations such as the American Legion and the Future Business Leaders of America and Phi Beta Lambda. In terms of residential customers, we are proud to have served over 3,000 since our inception in 2014.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We are blessed to have performed so much work that it is difficult to isolate a single project that I am most fond of. We are honored to have great demand for our tree service, both in term of trimming, removing, and stump grinding. I believe I employ two of the most talented and amazing Tree Climbers in the Shreveport/Bossier City Metro area. We routine remove hazardous trees from over homes and businesses without incident, delivering for the customer an operationally excellent experience that brings them the peace of mind that they are seeking when they trust their tree service needs to OpExcellence Tree and Stum Pros. Most of our tree service projects are completed the same day, but occasionally, we have very large projects that may take 2 or more days to complete. We work with all deliberate speed, but never at the risk of safety to our team or our customers and/or their premises. We also believe we differentiate ourselves from other tree service providers by providing immaculate, meticulous clean up before we consider the project completed.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Our advice is to know what you want, which makes our job of sharing options with you much easier. Also, we encourage you to get at least 3 quotes for any major project...but ensure that one of them is from OpExcellence Tree and Stump Pros. We will be very competitively priced but more importantly, you WILL love the quality of our end results. Better yet, just hire OpExcellence Tree and Stump Pros and buy yourself some peace of mind from your tree service worries today!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Some obvious questions include: *What do you want to accomplish? *What is your budget for the project? *How quickly do you want the work completed? *What has been the track record of success for the company you want to perform the work? What is the general consensus of public, verified feedback for the company? *Does the company do background checks on the employees that will be on your premises? *What forms of payment will the company accept? *Is the company licensed, insured and bonded? Of course, our answer to this question is always yes and we provide copies with every written estimate and invoice.
