Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We provide complimentary, no-hassle appointments so you can gain peace of mind about your home's exteriors without any unexpected charges. If you're looking for a roof inspection for a real estate transaction, our inspection fee is $175. If, during our inspection, we recommend roof repair or replacement work and either party chooses Retex for the project, that $175 fee will be discounted from the total amount due. Because we offer the most-competitive pricing we can to keep the lights on and serve you, we do not provide discounts for our services at this time.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We would love to get to know you and learn about your home exterior project! When you reach out to us, you can expect an immediate response and a cheerful office manager to help you schedule an appointment with one of our exterior experts. You'll receive an appointment confirmation email, and the exterior expert assigned to your appointment will give you a call when he's on his way. Our appointments typically last between 30 and 45 minutes, including about 15 minutes to conduct our exterior assessments. We focus on educating homeowners with photos and/or videos showing what we’ve discovered during our assessment of their home, and we share our best recommendations for fixing or replacing their home’s exteriors. We pride ourselves on providing quality products and services, clear communication, and great customer care for homeowners throughout the Greater Fredericksburg, VA area.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
All of our crews go through manufacturer installation trainings, and we also support our team members in continuing their education in whichever direction they think will help our company do better by our customers.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Caleb Kammerling has been with the RETEX family since 2021 when he started out as our project manager for our Richmond branch. He then opened up our Fredericksburg branch in 2023, and he's been at the helm since. Caleb lives in Ruther Glen, VA, with his wife Rebekah, and continues to serve in the Marine Reserves while providing excellent workmanship and customer care for home exteriors.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with homeowners throughout the Greater Fredericksburg, VA metro area. Besides folks who call us for roof repair and roof replacement estimates, we have helped those navigating insurance claims for storm and hail damage as well as folks who choose one of our financing options. We have also helped customers navigate home exterior projects for their rental properties and for their aging relatives.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We had a Locust Grove customer who reached out to us in November 2023 looking for an estimate for her siding and windows. After Caleb met with her and she explained what she actually wanted, we were able to add additional windows, swap doors for windows, and add doors to her home as well as install new siding and windows. She went forward with us in March 2024, and the whole aesthetic and curb look of the home transformed beautifully.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Here are our top five tips to find the best contractor in our field of work: 1. Do your due diligence. Check with your family, friends, and neighbors to see if they have a roofing contractor or company they have used and ask how the experience went. When looking online, search for great ratings across Google, Yelp, Facebook, Better Business Bureau, or any platform you trust for reviews. 2. Narrow down your options. Consider factors like location, warranties, and responsiveness to your inquiries. If you’ve reached out to a roofing contractor or company and don’t hear back within 24 to 48 hours, think about what their response time may be if you decide to move forward with their estimate. In most cases, upfront great – or bad! – communication is a good indicator of how your experience will be throughout the project. 3. Call and set up appointments that work for your schedule. Take this opportunity to speak with the first contact with the roofing contractor or company. Feel free to ask questions about manufacturers’ certifications, industry experience, insurance coverage, workmanship warranties, social distancing guidelines, and references for jobs they’ve completed near you. 4. Ask questions during your appointment. Ask about the company’s process for installation, cleanup, and inspection; their current schedule for jobs – for example, how long it would take, once the contract is signed, for your roof to be installed; payment terms and options available; and product choices available for your project. If you need help in paying for your project, ask if the company offers financing options. 5. Pick the company or contractor that fits your needs. Things to consider here include price, quality work, and the timeline for project completion. While the lowest bid may seem the most attractive, keep in mind the quality of work you’re paying for at that price.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
In order to prepare for discussing your project with professionals, we recommend you come prepared with your schedule and project timeline. If you know your roof's age, color and/or shingle type, that information is also great to have on hand. We're also a fan of you coming prepared with questions, so we recommend you get clear answers on the following during your appointment: 1.) What is your company's process for installation, clean up and inspection? 2.) What is your company's current schedule or timeline for starting and completing projects? For example, how long would it take, once the contract is signed, for my roof to be fixed or installed? 3.) What payment terms and options do you have available? 4.) What product choices are available for my project? 5.) As needed: Does your company offer financing options? Gathering this information will ultimately make you feel more comfortable about the process of repairing or replacing your roof or exteriors by answering any unknowns and relieving any stressors you may have.
