Introduction

I would like to impress the fact that we do stand out from our competition in several ways: 1- You are working with an experienced owner, NOT an inexperienced salesperson. 2- Our crews are VSI certified which guarantees experience, a higher quality of work, and requires on-going testing to continue with this certification. All LP SmartSide installers are Silver Series Certified. All window installers are AAMA certified. All crews carry the OSHA 10 hour card. 3- All jobs are monitored by field supervisors for safety, code compliance, and customer satisfaction. 4- We stay updated regarding the latest of home remodeling technologies (programs to change the look of a home with the click of a mouse / iPad contracts which saves time and paper) 5- My sub-contractor agreements are available upon request to better understand our worker's expectations. 6- You work with a company who KNOWS their workers. We hand-select each and every crew we work with and have a long-standing relationship that has spanned many years. Remember: When you work with a family-owned business owner, you work directly with the person with the largest vested interest in producing quality work, well executed for YOU. Our customers are our shareholders and they are the ones we strive to make happy. Thank you for supporting small business. I really enjoy the relationships that are built over time with each customer. In some instances there is a feeling of working with family members with the trust that is built. It motivates me to excel and exceed the homeowner's expectations. I enjoy the relationships between the crews and myself. Maintaining the SAME workers year after year shows in our work. I also enjoy talking with homeowners after they've chatted with our references. Lastly, I enjoy the fruits of experience. In other words, learning from mistakes and building upon every positive experience makes it easier every year to satisfy homeowners.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
It is difficult to have a standard price for a roof (for instance) as there are so many details and questions that need answering. Is it steep? What is the pitch? How many layers? What material are we installing? Is it cut up? Are there valleys? Will a ridge vent be installed? But generally speaking, I have never lost a job due to price. With low overhead, we can price match (and go lower than) any licensed contractor out there.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically, we will talk on the phone to clearly identify the homeowner's needs, agree on a time to meet (shake hands, measure, look at materials). After that, I send out an emailed estimate. The process is very straight-forward with a no-pressure feel.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Initial training through hands on experience. Kaplan training courses for general contractor licensing. EPA lead certification courses. Continuing educations courses annually. Factory tours of manufacturers. Between our roofing and siding crews we have over 130 years of combined experience.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I worked for another general contractor. My head exploded with ideas to implement but realized that as a project manager, my opportunities were somewhat limited in terms of making those things happen. I appreciate the experience and am glad I went forward with this venture.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Every kind you can imagine. From customers who turned out to be some of my closest friends to impersonal get-it-done types. Executives. One very sweet lady down in Northfield where the adjuster and I helped her navigate through the crazy and confusing paperwork and hassles of insurance work. Many lifelong customers. I enjoy people so there is a positive to take away in every experience.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
It was a siding, window, and stone job in Apple Valley. It was our last job of 2015. The customer was initially skeptical due to prior experiences with contractors. After the window crew came through, he was very impressed. Within a few days, the siding crew showed up and impressed him even more. And by the time the stone guy finished up, the customer and I were planning to have a beer together as he appreciated the work done so much. I love homeowners like this who, without my prompting, offer to be a reference. I have plenty more where that came from.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The most important factor is trust. After the initial trust is developed, make an educated decision as to product. Know your options. And then figure out budget, pricing... Compare your bids with others to ensure you are comparing apples to apples. Negotiate if necessary.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is your time frame? Are you studied up on the product you would like? Do you have payment options figured out? What time works for you to meet up?
