Introduction

At our family business, we pride ourselves on superior customer service. We don't chase hundreds of jobs per year like most of the storm chasing operations. We want to be on-site, on every roof, every siding job, every gutter replacement - to make sure things are done exactly as you describe you want them during our first meeting. With most companies, you meet a salesperson, then you are passed off to a project manager, and so on, and so on.... With each job we do, as the owner of our company I am involved immediately and throughout the entire process. Each note you give me, or detail you point out gets noted by me, and directed by me to be completed. I started in this business helping homeowners through the insurance claim process during several large storms. To this day, when storms hit, homeowners call us from referrals that come from our past clients because they have been happy with our process of educating them on how the insurance claim process works, or in non-insurance claim work, just generally why we do the things we do, and you are active in the process as much as you want to be. At the end of the project, you have seen the decisions you made along the way carried out exactly as you asked. Our goal is to earn that next referral by doing a great job for you first.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We have minimum travel time fees to cover doing small repairs, but inspections are always free. For roofing, pricing varies depending on material and labor costs, but generally we find we are very competitive because we are a small, family-owned business with lower than average overhead.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First, we try to get to the bottom of what each customer REALLY needs. We inspect the entire property in case there is an insurance adjuster we need to help get involved. We are very honest and straight forward about what we think the best course of action is when it comes to work on their home. If they can get 2-3 more years out of their roof, for example, we tell them and we hope we earn them as long-term customers.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am HAAG Engineering certified as a Residential Roof Inspector. HAAG Engineering provides the same training I have to insurance adjusters in the field. This gives me a huge advantage when inspecting roofs, because if there is a potential insurance claim involved, I know how to handle it properly, and can better identify the likelihood that a claim would be approved.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started in insurance claim sales for the contractor that built my family's home. I learned the ins and outs of roofing and siding, along with other exterior work. We properly and legally handle many insurance claims for homeowners, and we earn many referrals from customers by doing good work at a fair price. We do what homeowners needs, not what we WANT to sell them.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked mainly on residential property homes, and have done light commercial work on hotels and apartment buildings.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently, a storm damaged the home of a disabled veteran, and on top of handling his insurance needs, it has opened our eyes to doing more interior work including Universal Design and Accessibility work such as ramps, grab bars, railings, etc.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Definitely work with a licensed and insured contractor (which of course we are), and pay more attention to their quality of work than finding the absolute lowest prices. There is a reason that more than half of our business still comes from customer referrals.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
1) Is the contractor familiar with many types of material choices and do they present them to you, or are they focused on just 1 or 2 brands. You should be able to receive their recommendations without them forcing a certain product on you. If they do it is likely they just buy more of it and it helps their profit margin. 2) How attentive is the contractor to questions, and do they go the extra mile to make sure that you are happy with your choices before they start work?
