Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
The best price or equal to for the best roof system. We assess what is needed and what is not and price your roof as if it was our own home.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
1). Come out to your home. 2). Assess your roof project. 3). Provide you with an estimate on the spot in most cases (takes about 15-20 minutes). 4). If you are ready to go, we get your project on the schedule (if you are having leaks or it's an emergency situation we do our best to secure this as soon as possible). 5). We collect the first payment (typically 50%) on the start date of the project. 6). Install the roof in a timely manner. 7). I swing by and complete a final inspection and cleanup which includes collecting extra material. 8). I collect the final check or send a final invoice to you within a few days.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
17 years of experience. I've managed and installed asphalt shingles roofs, commercial flat roofs, historical slate/tile roofs and more.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My roofing career started after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. I left my hometown and headed south to help cleanup and got involved with historic roof restoration. My first project was a slate roof for a Federal Judge. After the job was complete, he wrote me a personal reference letter and it inspired me to go full-speed ahead in the roofing industry.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Residential asphalt shingles up to large commercial restoration projects like Nottoway Plantation (the largest remaining antebellum in the south).

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We completed an insurance restoration project in downtown Coeur d'Alene on the Charlotte's Web building. It was a very steep and tall roof with numerous commercial tenants. It was an arduous project but we were able to complete it in a timely manner and the owner was very satisfied. I was able to assist over 45 homeowners in 2021 with insurance claims due to the wind storm - all of which were very pleased with the outcome.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Due to the uncertainty of our time its become harder and harder to discern where they are getting value and where companies are overpricing projects due to backlog and labor issues. Personally I would not buy anything on the spot from a roofer sitting in my home with a fancy presentation and offering financing deals. Do your homework your typically paying double plus the financing while supporting out of town big corporations. If you want to finance there are local options and you can hire a local contractor for a much better price. Example: I had a customer last year that had a bid for $30,000 to replace his roof (financed). He didn't sign after the high pressure sales presentation. Called me. My price was $11,300, we installed a better quality shingle and he was very happy.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the best value for money? What do I need on my roof that is lacking? What is unnecessary and sounds good but really doesn't add life or value to my roof or home? Also look for the best experience. Are you going to be put into a machine where there are 5 different people your dealing with? This creates communication issues and frustrations. With Western you deal with one person start to finish all the way through the project.
