Introduction

For the last 8 years, people in the greater Seattle area have been getting their homes and businesses improved by me, and I can honestly say I have made sure they were all happy with our interactions. We can agree on a single price per project or $90 per hour for time plus the cost of materials, $200 for 2 hrs minimum. Many feel It is worth paying the rate of an experienced professional to be served by someone you want to interact with who puts care into the work, respects your property, and is positive & easy to communicate with. I try to be understanding, considerate, I COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY and I have the necessary experience to do good work which I can leave with confidence, knowing I will only be returning because I am being RE-hired. I have most often not felt it necessary to ask to leave a review, so remember to leave a review after hiring a pro from Thumbtack. Thanks in advance for all the positive feedback!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
*Average rate is $85/hr. *$90 per hour for small projects under 3 hours. *Minimum fee is for 2 hours or a flat fee of $180. My hourly rate is negotiable for larger projects over 2 days which we can agree on one set price for if you prefer.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
You can expect a quick response, concise communication and a strong willingness to come to an agreement on every aspect. I normally ask for payment upon completion of each project unless it is a longer project of 7 days or more. I charge the same for materials that I pay for them whenever I am reimbursed for materials, and I provide copies of receipts as well as an itemized digital invoice for the labor and materials upon request.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
7 years experience with various companies including Thumbtack as a carpenter/handyman and thriving, with every customer importantly satisfied! 15 Years of hands on, administrative, and teamwork experience in industrial, mechanical, and construction work environments.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I followed my natural aptitude, and ended up being skilled in various trades over the years. I decided that working for myself is the most fulfilling so I continued on where my values led me.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Families and individuals adding features to a home or business, often doing property maintenance like replacing rotted siding, trim, etc. Also landlords, and people who would love to have the time to do the work themselves.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I took 1 day to replace the old vertical wooden columns in the portico of an old craftsman home with new composite precast columns. I also enjoyed installing cedar ship lap siding on walls and a vaulted ceiling in a large room where an "endless" pool was later installed. There I made cedar cove trim for the corners and custom cedar door and window trim with window sills that are removable (pictured in photos) so they can be cleaned of any potential mildew due to the humidity of the pool. The room is 14'x24' with a 16' high vaulted ceiling and has 8 windows, the project took about 2 months for the carpentry.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Give enough information for others to better understand the job when posting on thumbtack, and follow up with pros that you contact. Professionals are charged to contact customers and many times the pro ends up wasting money and time talking to clients about things that could have been posted in the job description, only to have the client decide that it is too big of a job or they don't want to do it anymore for whatever reason. Say whether the new lights being installed are for existing fixtures or if the new lights to be installed are needing wiring run to them for example. Describe the fence repair, describe the door repair, describe the deck repair and it will save everyone lots of time and money. Take the time to either talk with them, read reviews, or find some credentials to be sure they are going to do safe work and they know what they are doing to Your home. This also helps you determine that you can communicate well together. Projects often only go as well as the communication between the client and the professional.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I think it would help many customers to articulate the most important basic details about their needs so both parties have a more specific overview when asking for a quote or any other information on a project through Thumbtack. Entering specific info about your project is mandatory if you want to find a pro who is a good fit for you personally without using up unnecessary time or incurring unnecessary expenses for someone else . Communication is key.
