Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Value Dry Waterproofing offers free inspections to customers within our service area.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
In basement waterproofing and crawl space encapsulation, there is no one-size-fits-all solution that will work for everybody, so our first steps are to meet with the homeowners, assess the problem, and present the recommendations for fixes. Our inspectors will answer questions about approximate costs, how the work is performed, how long it takes, and the pro/cons of each solution. Our inspectors work with the homeowner to design a customized scope of work taking into consideration their future plans and desired peace of mind. Several options will be presented and decisions will need to be made effecting warranty coverage.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Value Dry has been waterproofing basements and encapsulating crawl spaces in Maryland, DC and Virginia under the same management for over 20 years. We have certified basement waterproofing, crawl space encapsulation and egress specialists on staff. Well over a hundred years of combined experience on staff.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Owner, James Ketterer, waterproofed his first basement with his father before the age of 12. ValueDry was formed in Maryland in 2003 under Ketterer's supervision and management.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Residential, Commercial, Federal, State and Local Government Most of our customers contact us when they realize their foundation is leaking during periods of heavy precipitation. We also receive calls from customers that recognize their foundation has signs of water seepage that are looking to add livable space and protect their remodeling investment. We also receive calls from customers that are concerned with indoor air quality issues stemming from foundations seepage into their basement or crawl space. Often times customers reach out to us when they realize their crawl space is inefficient in the heat of the summer causing smells upstairs and in the cold of winter causing cold floors and high heating bills.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently turned smelly dirt floor basement into a dry healthy storage and work out area for a customer. It took about 2 weeks start to finish. The customer almost doubled their living space and raved about energy savings and air quality improvements that were causing sickness to the children and adults living in the home. We are proud of how our work delivers peace of mind and helps homeowners live healthier lives.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Be sure to research companies and their reputations before having them come out to provide a quote. Remember, lifetime warranties are only as good as the customer service, reliability, and workmanship of the company offering them! Basement waterproofing companies need to be able to service their customers during heavy rains. Ensure that the company you choose has the inventory and on staff capabilities to service their customer base. Many companies pop up in this industry after heavy rains hit. Then they go out of business, rename, change hands and leave their customers hung out to dry when the next storm or hurricane hits. Ask to see the actual location. If it is just an office space beware. Ask how many trucks, employees and support staff they own an employ so you can be sure they can stand behind their warranties. Does the company offer annual preventative maintenance inspections to ensure all the systems they are installing are performing as they should? If not, chances are they are fly by night and don't really have the resources to service your needs.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What are my plans for the home / basement / crawl space? What level of dry basement or crawl space peace of mind am I looking for? How important is indoor air quality to me?
