What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$140 is the hourly rate for 2 men and a truck. (Larger crew sizes are available.) We do have a 3-hour minimum for service. As licensed household goods movers by the PA Public Utilities Commission, travel and fuel charges must be assessed based on the exact service addresses in order to be in compliance with state regulations.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A general quote can be given with as little as only the exact service addresses. A more detailed estimate request form is available on our website.
To give a more accurate estimate of total project cost, a complete inventory must be collected, as well as the details of properties involved with a move.
We are willing and able to work with your preferred communication method. Ideally, a phone call is great to begin collecting information and start building a relationship with the company who will be moving your belongings. We offer complimentary in-home estimates for packing services and moves for properties 3 bedroom or larger. We also offer virtual estimates and are reachable by text message and email as additional contact options.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Kane & Family Movers has been in operation since 2016, having nearly eight years of on-the-job experience.
Emily, office manager/co-owner, possesses a Associate's Degree in Business Administration. She handles all customer interactions personally from initial contact to final billing.
Todd, operations specialist/co-owner, has experience with a previous moving company and a background in construction. He is present on jobs either as a crew leader or supervisor multiple days per week. All crew members are trained by him personally in procedure, technique, and safety prior to being dispatched to the field.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Kane & Family Movers is the brainchild of Todd Kane. His father is veteran of the US Army, and their family moved dozens of times domestically and internationally over his career. Todd's familiarity with the potential difficulties accompanying the moving process, combined with his own skills stemming from a background in construction, inspired him to create and lead a team who could simplify the moving process for others. Partnered with Emily and her background in business, Kane & Family Movers was born.
We identified a need for an honest, transparent moving company who keeps the needs and satisfaction of customers above all else. We built the business from the ground up on the basis of skilled, personable service and straightforward pricing without hidden fees. A key element of our success has been our level of personal involvement. Our customers appreciate being connected with real people instead of navigating 1-800 numbers with automated responses.
What types of customers have you worked with?
The bulk of our work is with residential customers moving from one location to another. We can provide full-service options, as well as assistance in only loading or only unloading trucks and containers. Our work has taken us to various types of apartment buildings and complexes, newly constructed homes, storage units, major cities and rural areas in 15 states.
We have also worked with many businesses on commercial projects moving offices and specialized equipment. In addition to traditional office buildings, we have moved retail stores & boutiques, bakeries, jewelry stores, restaurants, schools, and churches.
We offer military discounts for veterans and active duty personnel, and we have been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with a great many military service members, both on and off base.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always ask about licensure! All carriers of household goods in Pennsylvania must be licensed by the PA Public Utilities Commission. Our licensure credentials are provided in the "Business License" section of our Thumbtack profile, as well as on our company website.
Licensed movers must adhere to the pricing they have registered with the state. Any company offering discounts on a truck-and-labor move is either unlicensed or out of compliance with the state.
Know some red flags to identify unlicensed movers, and move confidently knowing that Kane and Family Movers is licensed and insured.
