What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our sub-contractors are licensed (where required) and bonded. We pair our newest General Contractors with a seasoned contractor mentor for the first year of work to insure that a second set of eyes are on each and every job.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Our partners started remodeling homes in 2019 in the Temple/Belton/Waco area. Our first jobs included flipping some of the ugliest homes in town. We took local home eye-sores and turned them into some of the best looking homes on the block. We still do house flips for homeowners and investors, but we recognized a need for quality home improvement professionals for discriminating homeowners. So we have turned our attention to the home improvement market.
We continue to serve the Temple/Belton/Waco area and have expanded our operation to include Austin, Dallas, and New Braunfels/Hill Country area.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have worked with homeowners who want to add quality upgrades to their home or property and we work with realtors, and investors to improve properties in preparation for sale or rent. We can provide general contracting services for home improvement or complete home renovation. All we need is your vision and we can do the rest.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Our most recent project was for a widowed homeowner on a fixed income. She had gotten her home treated for termites and was in need of a contractor to repair the termites caused. The first contractor she called quoted her a labor rate of $6000 a day for a minimum of two days to complete the job plus materials. The damage was limited to one wall in a small bedroom and repaint the entire room.
KE Construction & Renovation was able to complete the job for her for $4500 a savings of over $7500!! Our contractors also removed all of the furnishings and decor from the room and replaced everything just the way they found it when they finished the job.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Best Advise — You get what you pay for. Don’t settle for cut rate contractors. Make sure you find a contractor who will communicate with you throughout the process, and provide you with a quality outcome you can be proud of.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
1. What is the scope of the project? For example: Paint Exterior of the House using 3-4 colors and add Victorian trim to add to curb appeal. Will the scope of the project include repairs where wood rot or broken siding exist?
2. Have you considered every contingency? For example: Paint Exterior of the House using 3-4 colors and add Victorian trim to add to curb appeal & repair and replace damaged trim/siding. A contingency might be to repair additional water damage behind damaged trim/siding.
3. What is the project budget and have you made allowances for contingencies? For Example: Budget to Paint Exterior of the House using 3-4 colors and add Victorian trim to add to curb appeal may cost $3500 however, during the course of the work it is discovered that another $1500 in material cost to replace damaged trim/siding and repair water damage and an additional $500 in labor; increasing the total cost of the job to $5500.
4. Taking the scope of the project, contingencies, and budget, plus possible overages into consideration, have your prioritized the work included in the project. For Example: We want to Paint the exterior of the House but by adding Victorian trim using 3-4 colors of paint to improve curb appeal will add to the overall cost of the job. Should we find that we need to make more trim/siding repairs than we first anticipated do we increase our budget or adjust the scope of the project to fit our budget (i.e. limit paint colors to 2 colors and eliminate the addition of Victorian trim to save money for unforeseen repairs).
Ultimately you want to make sure you know the scope of the project, keeping in mind your overall budget (which should include buffer for contingencies) before you contact a contractor. Your General Contractor can guide you in selecting flooring, paint, finishes, appliances etc at the outset of the project and will lead you through the process. But it is important to remember that any time you are building unexpected things can come up and it is important to have a plan in place at the beginning of a project so that you are prepared.
