About Right Way Repairs: I offer small to medium scale repairs, landscaping including brush hog work, and tree removal. I've been doing side jobs for others since 2002 where I started in painting and landscaping. Most of my current work is for neighbors or on my own home, a 125-year-old Queen Anne in Cowpens, that needs significant repair. I provide open and honest pricing, communication, and set clear expectations about what can and cannot be done, what it will cost, and how long it will take.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

It's all variable and there are both cheaper and more expensive options depending on what you're looking for.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I come from a single parent household in a long line of hobbyist craftsmen and over-builders. My mom would make me watch the electricians, plumbers, and carpenters who did work on our house. Her grandfather used to tell her that you could tell everything you needed to know about a man by the way he treats his paint brushes.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Homeowners and realtors primarily. Pre-market repairs, pre-closing repairs, and home renovations.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I'm currently working a large tree removal project. Over 40 pines at 70'-90' tall on a lot in downtown Gaffney roughly 80' x 200' with a house right in the middle. There's something very satisfying about dropping a huge tree in just the right spot after careful planning and cutting with a tool that you've tuned and sharpened with your own hands.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure whoever you hire knows building code and completes the work according to code! There are ways to get the outcomes customers want that do not meet code. It's fine if that's what you want to do, but code compliant repairs and building gives you a few added tangible benefits other than being legal. Future work can be completed easier because historical work was completed in an expected way (which will save you money), code typically requires more than is necessary for basic safety of your home, and handymen who perform work to code are generally more knowledgeable and honest, in my experience, than those who "fly by the seat of their pants" so to speak. It may take more time and be more expensive, but you'll be happy with the work today and through the expected life of the repair/service.
