Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We do everything we can to help our customers get the best pricing possible. We make sure the materials we use on their projects enable us to offer competitive pricing while not sacrificing quality of work. We constantly monitor our subcontractors pricing to ensure they are offering competitive pricing. Some of our customers want to provide their own materials to help save money. Other customers want to do some part of the work needed for their project such as demo or painting to help save money. If one of our customers shows us they are getting better pricing somewhere else we will do all we can to adjust to our price to be more competitive.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Usually try to meet with the customer, take a look at the area of their home that needs some work or to be remodeled, and then listen to what the customer would like to accomplish. Once the customer has described what they would like to do, I will give my input on the project, try to describe how the project will be accomplished and the time frame needed to accomplish the work. If their project will need new finishes such as tile, countertops, flooring, etc we see if the customer knows what they want or do they need ideas? Sometimes we will take customers to select items other times we will give advice as to where they can shop for the finishes they might like.. We find that most customers need help selecting finishes, so we try to make this process simple and convenient. When our customers make the decision to do some work on their homes, this can be a stressful and expensive endeavor, we do everything we can to help their project go smoothly.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My father was a general contractor and built many houses in his life time. I worked with him for a number of years before deciding to work in the aviation industry for a while. I eventually came back to the construction industry, started our business (Meridian Rose Construction) and have been doing this ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with many different types of customers over the years. I don’t believe that race, religion, or sexual preference are important when working with customers. I believe that identifying what is most important to the different customers is crucial. For some customers price is the ultimate driving factor, other customers it may be more important to get what they want, pricing is a secondary factor. Its important to understand you customers needs.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently we built two patio covers for a customer in their backyard. In addition we added two new gas fire pits, new more private railing around their decks, privacy screening in their back yard around the new fire pit area, and added new pavers. It took approximately 30 days to order the needed materials and another 30 days to accomplish the work.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
In my opinion it’s important to look at the customer reviews for any company you may be choosing to work with. I would also look to see if their contractor license and insurance are up to date. Take a look at the social media presence and pictures of work performed. Try to make sure the company is in good financial standing, trust your gut when you talk with a contractor, if it does not feel right you are probably correct. Remember the lowest price does not always ensure the best results on your project.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
There are many important questions customers need to think through about their besides how long will it take and how much will it cost. Customer need to ask themselves how are their lives going to be affected while an area of their house is going through the remodel process, there will be dust and dirt even when trying to control it. There potentially will be different people coming and going in their home, if the customer has pets they need to be considered in the remodel process. Electrical and water services can be affected during the remodel process, customers should consider this. Customer should feel free to ask their contractor questions so they can be completely prepared for what will happen during the remodel process.
