Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
WE WILL NOT BE YOUR LEAST EXPENSIVE BID. We will not paint one bedroom wall for $100. There is no difference in price if your walls just need “touch up,” We paint the entire wall anyway. We will not move all your furniture for Free before we paint your house. We are willing to help, but our time is your dime. If your expecting us to move and clean your house before painting because you really can’t do it, we will contract movers and professional house cleaners for you. We will give you a super high quality product that is above and beyond the average for a fair price. We will go the extra mile to make you happy. We never cut corners, use cheap paint or leave anything undone. We do guarantee our work. We are also fun and easy to work with. We provide great combo packages, such as paint and crown moulding. Kitchen cabinet paint and new flooring. House decor update and new furniture. Etc. You can negotiate if you are doing 2 or more projects. ALL RETURN CUSTOMERS RECEIVE 10% OFF OF ANY FUTURE PROJECTS FOR LIFE.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Rapid response, pleasant and realistic communication, pictures sent back and fourth, quote given, scheduled date for pick up or consultation, partial payment received, pick up if item or delivery of service on sight, satisfaction of an excellent product received, for both client and contractor, payment received and great review accomplished.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Way to much to list.... we are artists and board certified contractors. The education in this field has its basics, but it’s really the School of Hard Knocks and the love of what we do that gives all of us our backbone. Success comes from doing!....and we are actually proud to say we have made enough mistakes in our time to not have to make again.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
We decided to leave our 35 year careers/ our positions as executives and create a business that we love. This wasn’t easy, we really were fond of our jobs which dealt with helping people. So we wanted to keep helping. During our brain storming, we actually realized that our basic purpose was to help others. We felt we had to incorporate this in anything we did if we as individuals, were going to be happy in life and successful in growing our company. At the time we were downsizing our lives and moving. We started with my love of antiques. I had way too many and an obsession for finding great pieces. This turned into restoring beat up pieces we found. Eventually we became more and more creative and our business exploded. Soon we had people begging us to teach them to do what we were doing. When we first began, “shabby chic” and furniture up cycling was a new fad. We had one person in the entire Bay Area that was doing what we were doing. Now there are hundreds! We believe we contributed to an incredible trend in the “do it yourself” DIY market. Then came the DIY TV shows. Thank goodness we didn’t watch TV! We saw where this was going and knew that we had to expand our horizons. You either expand or contract. Nothing stays the same forever. So Joe began getting licensed in every aspect of painting, decorating and carpentry. Currently our business has grown to include interior design, crown moulding, finished carpentry, custom and gorgeous window casings, decorating, all types of interior painting, kitchen and bath cabinet restoration or painting. Faux finish painting and just about anything to do with your homes interior design projects. I found that any new idea I had, Joe could create! What a lucky gal I am! And lucky for you too.! This means that if you have a unique idea that we haven’t created before, we have a challenge. We love that! We have continued to expand and have a pool of ethical contractors, tried true and fully tested, to do any project on your home. Plumbers for Bathroom & kitchen remodels. Electricians for lighting and a super great flooring team! We love what we do and are excited to take on any new project.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I have so many good ones to choose from. The most recent and simplest was in my new mountain cottage in Boulder Creek. ( I have to figure out how to get a video on this platform for you.) There was a single cabinet off to the right of the kitchen sink and 35” of blank wall space next to it. It was unfitting and did nothing for the space but irritate me. It also wasn’t very functional. I couldn’t fit wine glasses in it and the space over all was limited. In a small mountain cottage you have to think with maximizing your space and come up with creative ideas to either hide things or expose them as pleasant decor. I liked the floating shelf idea, but it had to be rustic. The ceiling in the cabin is made of gorgeous planked redwood with exposed redwood beams. It’s my favorite feature of the home beside the landscape of redwood trees and the rushing San Lorenzo River. I decided to go find some old redwood barn wood. That’s pretty easy to find in these parts. It’s as simple as looking over your neighbors fence actually. I found some nice thick pieces that were cracked, weather worn and washed out grey. They even had lichen growing on them, but I saw their potential. I chose the 2 that had the most raised grain and knots. I then took a sanding tool that is made specifically for sanding between raised grain and in 20 minutes both boards were sanded. I asked Joe to cut them to 38” for me. Then I clear coated them with clear polyurethane. No stain added. 5 minutes on each side with drying time in between. The results were spectacular! The color is a deep reddish brown that is rich and earthy. And, they matched my ceiling perfectly! I had old vintage decorative shelf brackets that I was going to use in the garden, but they were much better suited for these gorgeous shelves. Next, I had Joe help me get them up evenly. (10 min ) Then VWALAH! I now have this gorgeous space in my kitchen that is beautiful, functional and balances the space. I have colored dishes on them, glasses, both wine and drinking, a plant and a decorate antique pitcher. Plus salad bowls and even space for the coffee tin! The entire shelf project took approx an hour of action steps. To be really real...it took much more time repairing, then repainting the damaged drywall when we pulled the old cabinet down. * you can see pictures at the top of this profile section.
