What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Most work is bid by the job. Each project is very unique, and it is impossible to have a standard price for a type of project, such as a bathroom remodel. Handyman work and repairs are billed as time and materials.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

For jobs that need to be bid, we will set up an appointment to look at the work you need and discuss specifics. This gives you a chance to get a feel for the professional experience you will have if you hire us. While there, we will assess the job and what it will take to complete it. You will be emailed a bid later to review, without any pressure. If you decide to work with us, you can accept the bid electronically. We will communicate with you for the remainder of the job by your preference (text, phone, or email). There are times where each of those methods are useful. Contract signing is done in person, if possible. This allows for any details to be worked out ahead of time and any concerns to be addressed. For repairs and handyman work, we will discuss the work you need ahead of time and book an appointment. Then we will come take care of the work at that time. There are times where something like mold or dry rot is discovered that can complicate the job. We work with you to resolve anything that comes up.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

13 years of experience in carpentry, HVAC, and electrical.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

My dad was a home builder and I worked for him in the summers. Later, I worked for an electrician and several HVAC contractors. I have remodeled 4 of my own homes, as well.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with lots of different customers and treat everyone with respect.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I turned an open pergola into a patio cover with a roof and exposed beams. It took about a week and a half.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Get 3 bids. Pick someone you can talk to easily and who if familiar with the type of work you are needing completed. Check reviews or references to ensure they are trustworthy. Look at pictures of their work to make sure they do a nice job. These factors are more important to a good experience and quality finished product than getting the lowest price.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What is the full scope of work I am needing completed? Do I want to change something or just fix/replace what is already there? What is my budget? What styles do I like? Do I want to supply some materials or have everything supplied by the contractor? How much time will this project take?
