I feel that my speciality is that when I take on a project I value my client's input and respect their expectations immensely. I feel that it doesn't take a large amount of money to create a living space. It takes creativity, resourcefulness and imagination. I have a comprehensive team of painters, contractors, movers, electricians, tiling/stonework and housecleaning during/after the project. I have cultivated my team through the years and each person on my team is the best that I have found, all vetted and insured, so that it’s one stop service for the project. What I love most about being a designer is having the opportunity to bring joy to my clients by creating beautiful, functional spaces that are livable and comfortable.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My fees range from by the hour for smaller projects and for consults, and a flat rate for larger engagements so that we can maintain the client’s budget. I am very fair in pricing and lend my discounts to my clients. I commit to one quote for the work to be done, and if I feel that my time will go over that I will let my client know we are reaching that point, and never give my client a surprise invoice.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I typically have a phone conversation first to get a scope of the project, chat with a potential new client and get some basic information from them. From there, if the client feels comfortable with me and would like to meet in person for a consultation, I will travel to their home to see the project in person, and hopefully formally engage the project.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a member do ASID which hosts many many dynamic speakers, Industry and Individuals, that I attend regularly. My particular interest is the psychological impact of a well designed home on people's lives.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

My entire life I always knew the importance of having a Haven for you to come home to. Where you live should be your sanctuary, your comfort and your relief. I always wanted to help people achieve that by educating myself with the principles learned in design school and actually caring about my clients and their quality of life.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Most of my projects have been the primary living areas for families. But I've designed whole houses, kitchens, bathrooms, playrooms, finished basements, new construction, and antique preservation. I've also had the unique opportunity with a foundation that I work for to be able to rehabilitate and repurpose antique and dilapidated buildings into Centers for Women in recovery, Homeless Centers, Rescue Missions, and Habitat for Humanity Homes. It's very rewarding, challenging work that has enriched my life and my spirit more that I could ever estimate.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

A friend of mine lost her entire house during Hurricane Sandy when a tree fell through her house! It was devastating. Her entire house had to be rebuilt from the foundation up. It was a privilege to work with her, her husband, her 3 children to design a complete home from such a traumatic event in their lives. I pride myself on my sensitivity and my deep caring to elicit the best results possible for my design. I handled everything in the rebuild with care, consideration and respect. The end result is their dream house.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

To look though magazines and books, see what appeals to you, start a file for each room you want to have designed and show that to your designer. They are there to listen and help you discern what your taste is, not for the designer to impose their taste upon you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

That Design is for everyone! It isn't only for the rich that can afford to spend thousands to make your house look like it's from a magazine. It's a creative process whose success is a result of listening, dreaming, imagining and executing that design.
