Introduction

We are a local business that has been in the industry for over 30 years. We have been a word-of-mouth business until recently, when we have begun to develop an online presence. S&D has both a General Engineering and a General Builder contractors license (A and B license). Making us more qualified than most of the industry for any job. It is our promise to treat your home as if it were our own. Our specialties are remodels and additions. We are qualified to perform any task required of us by our customers whether it's removing walls, creating vaulted ceilings, custom projects, and etc. Unlike our competition, we give clear, detailed estimates that allow our customers to be informed about the costs and offer transparency so they can feel secure about their project. We want our customers to understand that we exceed the standard

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We give detailed estimates, more than the standard contractor. We are upfront about costs, and we will always inform the customer of any changes in price or additional work that must be performed.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
The first priority is to let our customers know that we are a local, family business. There will not be a crew that comes in and rushes the job so they can continue to the next as fast as possible. Second, is that we are moral, trustworthy people. And we will treat your house just as we would treat our own. We are here to improve people's lives, not make them worse. Third, is we make sure they know a little about us before showing us their house or the project. We want our customers to feel comfortable and realize that they are still the king/queen of their house. After this, we simply ask some questions, and take measurements as needed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a general contractors license and general engineering license. This qualifies me to perform any work that is asked of me by a homeowner. I am capable of making my own drawings and I include them with my work where applicable.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I ran a millwright company for 5 years, constructing rice silos, industrial plants, bridges, and performing work for local companies like Contadina or the no longer present, mobile chemical. Later I entered into residential work with home finishes. Within 2 years I was leading the most profitable region in the company. Unfortunately, home finishes could not outlive the financial crisis (with my region being the last profitable region) and collapsed. I decided to open my own business shortly thereafter and provide a more personal service to customers without the overhead.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with every customer you can imagine. Both good and bad. Different races, religions, physical capabilities, everything. Homeowners, landlords, business owners, pilots, racecar drivers, law enforcement.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I'm fond of every project. I particularly like remodeling kitchens or any kind of addition. I enjoy the feeling of making something better. Projects can vary from a couple weeks to a month for a remodel, or more for larger projects.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Don't settle for the shady, super cheap contractor. We've seen the results of these kinds of people. It's always terrible when people have to go through that. Don't hire a handyman for a general contractor's job.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
1. Do some general research into what the job might cost or the timeframe it will take to complete. Just to get an idea to make sure you want to proceed. (it takes time, money, and effort to make good bids for customers) 2. Have an idea of what you can afford so that you are confident in your choices. Make sure to have a little extra just in case something unexpected happens or is found. Especially on older houses! 3. How you plan on living around the construction taking place. (How you will cook if we are remodeling your kitchen!) 4. Am I okay with the contractors using the bathroom? (We are contractors, but sometimes people forget we are human) 5. Am I ok with the dog/cat being around some noise? (and making friends with the contractors)
