What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Obtain project information and answer any questions you may have. I'd then determine if an onsite assessment is needed for a quote. For most small jobs (less than a day), we would just go by our hourly rate. Then we decide on a convenient time that works best for the both of us. Finally get the job done!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

General contractor license 14 years + experience in the construction industry.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I grew up doing handyman work with my dad and found out early that I enjoyed working in construction. I started working for a builder, started as field tech and moved up to assistant Superintendent coordinating and scheduling our vendors in building between 6 to sometimes 12 homes at a time. I also walked the inspictions with the city inspectors and did the final sign offs with the property owners. I worked in this field for 8 years, until the recession in 2008 and been self employed ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I've worked with property managers, home owners, sub-contractors, and renters, etc...

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure they are qualified, make sure they are licensed, insured and bonded. Using a licensed contractor could help you avoid financial risk and other problems associated with unlicensed operators. In California, anyone who contracts to perform work on a project that is valued at $500 or more for combined labor and materials costs must hold a current, valid license from CSLB.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Do you have an idea how much your project will cost? Have you decided on a design concept? What are you trying to achieve? Does your project require permits?
