Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Pricing is dependent from job to job. There are ways to calculate averages but I like to take a more personalized approach, as each project has different requirements for prep-work and repair prior to the final application of paint. I provide free consultations and estimates so please take advantage of that.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
A preliminary over the phone consultation is generally had prior to an in person meeting at the home. After discussing the clients needs and getting eyes on the project I can come up with an on the spot estimate if they want a general idea of cost. Finally, I write up a formal Estimate/Bid for the project for their consideration if reviewing multiple contractors.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I began my education in the field of painting in my early 20's working with the top painting contractor in my area. From them I learned what products and materials are the best to use and what to avoid. I have always maintained the same quality of workmanship as I was trained to provide.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
While studying Neuroscience and Computer Science in college, I started marketing myself as an independent contractor to support my education. However, I eventually realized that this wasn’t the path I wanted to pursue and decided to transition to full-time work in contracting. Initially, I took a job as a painter just to earn an income, but over time, I discovered a genuine passion for the trade. I find immense satisfaction in delivering high-quality work and love seeing the joy on my clients faces when they see the final results.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have had clients that come from all types of backgrounds, but primarily middle class and higher income families. My clients choose me because I provide the highest quality work that money can buy, but without the added cost that comes with hiring the largest painting company in the area, who carry massive overhead to run their business with payroll, vehicles, and a large marketing campaign.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
My most recent project I completed was a historical home build in the early 1900's, and is my main profile photo on my website that you can refer to. The house and garage totaled in 3,500 square feet, I refinished 18 of the original windows dating back to when the house was build in 1908. In total the project took 13 work days.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure you do your due diligence in researching your painter and make sure they are using quality materials from start to finish. Everything from caulking to primer and finally the paint. A lot of people think paint is paint, caulk is caulk, and primer is primer. But there is a massive difference between manufacturers that effects the color retention and longevity of the work they will do for you.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Get an idea of the contractors workflow, the materials they use (cheap, mid-grade, high grade), and get a read on their level of attention and detail. Please understand that cheaper is never good, and the most expensive contractor (and in general largest outfit), is charging extra to pay for their larger overhead costs and advertising campaign. Smaller, highly specialized outfits like mine will generally land in the middle in terms of cost, will use high grade materials, and have better customer service. This is somewhat of a generalization and not always the case, but is true in most circumstances.
