What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

We are constantly participating in seminars and workshops organized by Sherwin Williams. Also, we are enrolled in CertaPro University, which keeps us up to date in the painting industry.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

When I came back to Minneapolis I thought I could get a job as an engineer. Having a degree in engineering from the University of Wisconsin, an MBA, 25 years of experience as an industrial contractor, and speaking three languages would be assets that any company would like to have. I was wrong. Being 55 years old was just too old to be employed. This is how looking for a way to make a living I ran into CertaPro, looked into it, felt that it was a good fit for me considering my experience, and I decided to buy the franchise in April 2014. I have been in business since 2014, and I thank the Lord for not been able to find a job back in 2014. I truly enjoyed making a difference in my customers' homes/businesses when they trust me with their projects.

What types of customers have you worked with?

We work with all types of customers, residential and commercial. Contact us for specific inquiries. CertaPro Painters most commonly applies paint to interior and exterior surfaces for homes and businesses.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I have been fortunate to do many different types of projects. I just want to mention one we did recently in February 2020. It was a very small project, but the feeling our customer shared with us in her post card is what really makes me be thankful for being in this business. We painted the attic for our customer's 11 year old son who was just moving into it. This is what she said: "Thank you Jose and Larry (supervisor). We appreciate your great work for our son's new room. He loves it!". This kind of reactions make my day.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When selecting a painting contractor in your area ensure they have workers compensation insurance, general liability insurance and warranty their work. Their punctuality and attention to detail are critical to meeting your expectations. It is also very important that the customer is very specific with the project details, and that the contractor proposal specifies all these details

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
