Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our pricing is transparent and includes a few key points customers should be aware of. We offer special discounts each month, which you can find on our website under 'promotions.' We charge a 3% fee for credit card payments, but you can avoid this by paying with cash or check. We also offer convenient financing options through Wisetack to help with larger projects. To get started, we require a 50% deposit before scheduling your project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Our process with new customers starts with scheduling a free estimate, which you can do by messaging us, calling us, or filling out the request a quote form on our website. After receiving your quote, you can work directly with your estimator to make any changes or adjustments. Once you're ready to move forward, simply approve the quote online and submit a 50% deposit to secure your spot on our schedule.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

All of our employees at MacFarland Painting are full-time, highly skilled professionals—no subcontractors! We are fully licensed and insured, and our team members have the expertise and training needed to handle your project with care and precision.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My Father received a rather frantic call from my older Brother Will, who as a second job in his mid 20’s, managed a small apartment complex. The painters that were hired to paint the units had not shown up. I painted several of these apartments in High School and was tasked with invoicing and ordering materials. I came back to painting the summer after my first year in College with a small painting company and really learned to paint. I liked the work, but I loved the customer interaction and problem solving that came with it. I decided I needed to change my major. It was then that I left Wayne State and went to Eastern Michigan and enrolled in the Construction Management program. I became a licensed Builder in 2005 and for the next several years, performed the estimating and project management for everything from a small bathroom paint to whole house remodels. When my wife and I decided to start our family in 2011, it was evident that in order to really grow the business, I had to eliminate some of the remodeling services because they required so much of my time and focus. Over the next several years, I hired several key people and the growth just kept coming. The purchase of our building in 2022 with twelve cabinet spray booths, a design center, gym, and room for growth was a dream realized. Today my purpose is to provide a first class client experience, and a lot more than just a “job” for my staff. “Client Satisfaction and Employee Success” is our motto and it is not by accident the “Client” comes first. - John MacFarland

One project we’re particularly proud of is the set of stunning murals we completed at The Blind Owl restaurant in downtown Royal Oak. Our talented muralist, Alex, dedicated about 15 workdays to bring these vibrant designs to life, adding a unique touch to the space.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
When hiring a provider in the painting industry, I recommend looking for a company that is licensed and insured, as this ensures professionalism and accountability. It's also important to check customer reviews and ask for references to gauge their quality of work. Don’t hesitate to request detailed estimates and ask about their processes. Finally, look for a company that communicates openly and is willing to collaborate with you on your vision for the project.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is my budget? Understanding your budget helps set realistic expectations for the project and allows you to discuss appropriate options with the professional. What is the scope of the project? Clearly defining what you want to achieve, including specific areas and features, will help the professional provide a more accurate estimate and plan. Have I researched potential providers? Identify a few companies you're interested in and review their qualifications, previous work, and customer feedback.
