Introduction

Kitchen cabinet painting is where we really excel, and all we do now. Our finishes do NOT look like a re-paint. We produce a true "factory finish" that is smooth as glass, and every bit as durable because we use the same lacquers that cabinet manufacturers use. We remove doors and drawer-fronts so they can be prepped and sprayed in our shop. Our procedure is labor intensive, spraying multiple coats and buffing between each coat. Your kitchen cabinets will look brand new when we are finished. The high grade lacquer runs anywhere from $120.00 per gallon to $150.00 per gallon. It does not have a long shelve life, so we discount anything we have in stock and give it to the client for free. The material discount for popular colors can be upwards of $200. Please remember that we perform a labor intensive process of spraying and buffing each coat for s super smooth, durable finish. Paint store paints that won't last a year before chipping and peeling, with their thick, sticky finishes do not even come close to our flawless finishes, and prices reflect that reality. Once oil based or latex paints are used, lacquer cannot be used on top of them. We cannot fix previous bad paint jobs. Average kitchen will run $3,500 to $5,500 for our services, depending on condition of current cabinets. With furniture refinishing, we use top-grade products, like conversion lacquer from Pro Wood Finishes, in Rockville Maryland, and we apply them with high-grade spray equipment in our shop.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We stick to our estimates. We don't coming running for more money at the first sign of a difficulty.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We try to be as helpful and reassuring as possible. Picking colors can be difficult, so we rely on almost 40 years of experience when we give advice.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We like to keep up with technical information about the products we use. We also do much product research online.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Joanne quit a teaching career to work with me and use her fabulous hand skills. We really enjoy working for ourselves.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We did many jobs for the Ronald Reagan administration, and Jimmy Carter's Press Secretary Jody Powell. For years, much of our antique furniture refinishing was for Georgi Packwood, wife of US Senator Bob Packwood. We always had a cut of all social classes, doing middle class home painting, apartments, and total restoration jobs for the rich and famous.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently finished a large kitchen cabinet job that had 64 cabinet doors. We finished in just under a month.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Always meet the contractor before entering into an agreement and ask who will be doing the work. With kitchen cabinets, it is incredibly important to ask about the paint that will be used. Products from paint stores and Home Depot can ruin your cabinets by looking so awful, that you will have to replace them. Make sure you are hiring a real professional, not someone looking for inside work in the cold winter.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I would like my customers to know that we are a husband and wife team with 35-years experience in painting and carpentry, and almost 40 years experience refinishing furniture.
