I am located in St Louis MO. I teach art (drawing and painting) and I accept commissions for drawings and oil paintings.. If you are not located in St Louis MO For teaching, My Zoom rates are $60 per hour. My in person rates are $80 per hour. Portrait prices begin at $800 (per person). Please note that, while I have no reviews posted yet, I am working on gathering them! The following description is a discussion for prospective students, I also accept commissions for portraiture. Contact me more information, please. The goal is to empower the student to make their own creative choices: how to select a good subject, set up a functioning creative space, how to begin a painting, sustain motivation throughout the process, and how to know when a painting is “finished.” My personal goal for you is to show that “talent” is a myth. Learning to draw or paint well is a skill, like every other subject. The course can be adapted to the individual needs of each person. Your age, skill level, and interest can all be accommodated. Depending on where we are in life, we all have different creative needs. The course is adaptable to complete beginners, intermediate painters, and advanced artists. Should you wish to learn landscape painting, plein air, fantasy, portraits, still life, or animals - it is all within your grasp. You just need a working process to guide you. We will use a blend of technology and traditional painting tools to train your eye to see like a painter. The real work begins when you practice these concepts. They will be introduced to you in class, practiced during the sessions, but you are also expected to practice the exercises that are given, on your own. I can point the way to you, but it is up to you to take the advice that is given. One important note: I am not a controlling type of teacher. I see myself as a guide who is willing to share. I’m not going to tell you what kind of art is “valid.” I do not assign grades. This is not math. But, I have studied this field for 30 years, and I believe that I can help you to empower yourself with skills. I don’t teach “art.” I demonstrate skills that you may utilize to free the expression and vision you have. (But what if you don’t have vision!? That can be explored as well). Here’s what to expect: 1. How to navigate the large and confusing art store - which are the best brushes, brands and the best archival supplies. (And, why I love beat up, old scruffy brushes!)And, what brands to avoid. Set up a creative space that works for you, with good lighting. A discussion of color theory, values, and the elements of art. You will be given a vocabulary sheet and numerous resources and exercises to put the nuts and bolts of a painting together. How to identify and follow your own artistic intuition How to find the right reference photo, set up your palette, and BEGIN (many people get stuck here). Steps to take through the painting process, and how to get unstuck. How to finish a painting! Calling a creative project “done” can feel challenging. With gentle encouragement, and the right books, tools and practices, you will soon be painting the hours away! Art has brought me a tremendous amount of joy. I am excited to share the thrill of expressing yourself on canvas. I teach all ages.
