Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Murals range from $20-50/square foot. Oil paintings start at $6/square inch.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to meet personally with my customers and have a natural conversation that allows us to both get to know each other some. I like to get to know a customer by asking questions and hearing their visions, and gather a vibe. I then take our conversation along with details for your piece to then start designing or sketching. Once the design is approved, I get to work. I keep communication about the progress of the painting and ask for feedback for minor changes before any final seal is applied.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have over 20 years of painting experience. I have done backbackdrops for plays, murals for restaurants/bakeries/apparel shops and more, and murals for public spaces. I also specialize in oil paintings, mostly portrait work but I do landscape and culinary paintings too.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was first asked to do a commission painting at the age of 15. From then on, I have been doing custom paintings for a wide range of ccustomers, from residential and gifts to businesses public art.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with a wode variety of customers. Oil painting requests are typically for private collections or given as gifts. Murals have been both residential and commercial for business.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently painted a beautiful mural of a iconic, local place, the boat houses of Red Wing, Mn. It took me 5 weeks from the start of design to the final sealant coat. This painting has drawn viewers from not just the local area, but from surrounding cities as well. It makes a great photo background! I absolutely love this mural.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
My advice is to consider the life of the artwork. Choosing a professional artist may cost more, but you are getting a professional experience and result that will last a very long time.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
A customer should ask about the process of the piece, if there are any fees or guidelines for changes of the piece along the way, and how the piece is protected or how to fix it if something were to happen to it.
