Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I don’t charge anything for estimates. I prefer to do them via pictures sent through the phone or email but I need lots of pictures from many various angles. In case you’re wondering how that’s possible I use the width of the dishwasher and stove which are normally a constant as a guide for measurement.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically a customer will reach out to me via text or phone call requesting a quote to have their kitchen cabinets repainted. From there I will either do an on site visit or provide the quote onsite or via text, email, or some other means like WhatsApp. Once the customer accepts the contract price I collect 50% upfront, order materials, and schedule the work to be done. Once the work is completed I collect the final 50% payment, ask if they’re happy with the work, and take a bunch of “after” pics.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I worked for Sherwin Williams through college which trains their employees in different types of coatings. The rest I picked up working for an auto body repair shop, owning my own furniture business and a decade of spraying kitchens myself.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I’ve always had a knack for woodworking and painting since my youth. I’d ask for a large tool every Christmas so by the time I was in college I had most every tool I needed to build furniture and fix other handyman type of things as needed.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All kinds! Black, white, Christian, Islamic, Gay, or Straight! I don’t care what tenets you hold to, I’m just there to make your kitchen amazing!!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One kitchen I completed recently was tight on budget so we kept all the original cabinets from the 80’s, painted them, and added a bunch of decorative pieces such as crown molding, corbels, upper cabinets, beadboard, and a refrigerator panel and it hardly looks like the same kitchen. You can see this project in the pics. Look for the kitchen with the farm table and ornate backsplash. It took two weeks because of all the extras.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure whoever you hire uses a high quality coating and undercoating. You never want to use regular latex wall paint on your cabinets or the kind that they sell at Home Depot/Lowe’s. You’ll be sorry you did! Kitchen cabinets need a product that can handle constant use. I use a pre-catalyzed lacquer which has a curing agent added making it dry very hard.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is your budget? What color/s did you have in mind? What days of the week work for you? Are you sensitive to strong odors? (The smell with be like you’re in the nail salon getting a manicure although I do use ventilation fans to channel it outdoors). Do you feel comfortable with who you will be inviting into your house?
