Introduction

We are experienced, licensed, professional painters who paint interiors, exteriors, and outdoor surfaces. From a simple refresh of your resale home or rental to the renewal of your dream home with custom colors and design; we never underestimate the power of paint to transform, enrich, and revitalize spaces. In addition to painting, we consult with clients on paint colors, textures, and decorative enhancements to renew their freshly-painted homes. We also offer exterior surface coatings (stain, epoxy, sealants) for garage floors, pool decks, and fencing & decking. We have 20+ years of painting experience and take pride in our craftsmanship. We are a locally-owned, licensed, and insured painting contractor (License #: ST-9707) serving all of St. Johns, northern Flager, & south-central Duval counties. We train and use only our own employees, never subcontractors or day laborers. We guarantee our price quote and that our work will meet or exceed your needs and expectations. Our costs typically range from $400+ for an average, single room repaint to $25,000+ for custom homes with fully bespoke interiors. Pricing includes labor and all materials, although custom or luxury paint orders may incur direct ordering costs or owners may choose to supply the paints. We focus primarily on residential clients but also do smaller commercial jobs for organizations looking to make their professional offices their own with paint and decor. Call us today for a free, no-obligation price quote for your painting project. We always offer discounts to veterans, active-duty military, and senior citizens. Ask about our seasonal specials. We always appreciate the opportunity to earn your business! PLEASE NOTE: Many unlicensed and uninsured contractors advertise on Thumbtack and other online services. Hiring unlicensed & uninsured contractors to perform work at your home is a liability to you and against the law in St Johns County. We encourage all our prospective clients who are hiring painters in St Johns County to be sure the providers are licensed & insured. St Johns makes it easy to check with a simple search function that allows you to find out if a potential painter is licensed. Just search for "Contractor Licensing St Johns" click through and you'll see the: "Search Contractors" option on the right. Click, enter the name and you'll see their licensing info. If they aren't there, they aren't legal painters in St Johns. This is an easy and safe way to hire a licensed professional and ensure the work is done properly at a fair price. We have seen some terrible "work" done by unlicensed and uninsured "painters" in the area.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our prices range from a minimum of $400 for a small room repaint to $20,000+ for a 5000 square foot, custom interior or multi-story exterior, using bespoke colors and luxury paint brands. We do require a one-day minimum of $400 which allows for painting up to 8 hours, basic supplies such as brushes, rollers, drops and clean-up before we leave. If you find yourself with paint and no time and a room that can be done in a day, our daily rate may be your best option. Whatever the pricing we always try to throw in a little extra value for our clients. From our new client & military /veteran discounts to a free, freshly painted front door--we always want to leave you feeling you got a fair price for excellent, high-quality work! If you're looking for the cheapest painters, we probably aren't your company. Our pricing is competitive, but it isn't the lowest in the area. Unlike many advertising here and elsewhere, we really are licensed and insured. We use our own employees. We pay a livable wage and our share of payroll taxes. We hire skilled tradespeople who are proud of their craftsmanship. We present our licensing and insurance documentation when we arrive, so you know your home is safe in our hands and insured in case of mishaps or accidents. We use trained, experienced employees and all our crew is covered by worker's compensation, FL unemployment, and liability insurances. So while we aren't the cheapest painters in town, you know when you hire Refresh & Renew Painting you are hiring local, legal, tax-paying painters who live in our communities and work hard to do great work.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We provide GUARANTEED PRICE QUOTES NOT ESTIMATES. Our prices are exactly what you will pay for the work. It isn't an estimate because we measure each space, discuss your needs and expectations, and then prepare a quote that tells you exactly what you'll pay for the work. We usually begin with an online or email exchange. Then we schedule a visit to your home. We want to meet potential clients, measure and assess their project requirements, understand their tastes and expectations BEFORE we provide a guaranteed price. We send out an estimator who arrives ready to measure, collect the information you want to share about your project and schedule. We want to know if you are painting for a quick refresh for resale or rental or if you want to change from builder blah to your very own colors that will last for years to come. Have a special color in mind? We'll help you find it. Have a particular brand you love? We'll use that brand in our pricing and pass along some contractor discounts too! Have no idea what colors will work in your space? We will work with you to find the perfect paint to enhance your home or office. We provide a statement of exactly what work will be done, how much paint it will take, the brand, colors and finishes are all documented BEFORE you decide to work with us. No up-selling or changing mid-stream for the work you hired us to do. If we are doing the work, it's documented in our price quote. GUARANTEED!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We have a variety of experiences working with the specialty crafts & trades for more than 20 years. We've worked to develop our painting skills in interior & exterior applications, product knowledge, surface preparation, and color & repair corrections. We seek to leave you with an impeccable paint job and experience and knowledge of the right product for your job makes a big difference.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Since there are no formal requirements for becoming a painter it's usually an experiential or "journeyman" trade. We have experienced painters who have apprenticed with a variety of master painters and craftspeople and learned their craft and products. In St Johns County and other counties in Florida, a Specialty Trades License is required along with 14+ hours of education and testing in order to sell painting services to the public. Further education is required for those who do lead-paint or hazardous materials removal. We do not handle lead paint removal and therefore we tend not to work on homes with peeling surfaces that were built before 1978. We know everyone thinks they can paint a wall or room or house--and some can do it very well--some might find it more trouble than it's worth or their DIY efforts might not be as high-quality as they would like. That is where experience and product knowledge makes a big difference. Call us and we will be happy to lend a hand, provide a guaranteed price quote or some free advice! The Refresh & Renew Painting crews come from a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds: from painting during college to painting with journey tradesmen, to learning from the trade from their parents & grandparents. Our business is family-owned and operated. We take pride in our work and seek to meet or exceed every client's expectations. We want our business to succeed and that means having clients happy to refer us to family & neighbors and call us when they need a touch-up, a new color or a redesign of their current colors.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Usually, very nice customers! We have worked with everyone from helping first-time home buyers with a fixer-upper to, repainting for a quicker resale, to those with multi-millions dollar "estates" requiring custom paint colors and the highest standards for quality. We simply do our best work for all our clients: from small, single room paint jobs to full house renewal we value the opportunity to earn your business and won't leave until our work meets your expectations!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently worked with a family moving into a new home from out of state. They were really busy with organizing their move--complicated by a pandemic--working from home and wanting the new home painted before after they closed but before they moved-in. We enjoyed working remotely to provide an estimate based on the house floor plan, online photos and their preferred paints. We were able to provide an "estimate" with a guaranteed "not-to-exceed price" then the day they closed we went to work. The painting was finished in painted and ready on moving day. We returned after the move-in for a final walk-through and touch-up! It was a pleasure to help someone get moved during this challenging time. The job went well, the paint looks fantastic, and everyone was pleased with the outcome. That's the way we like to do our work!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
As with most services: Buyer Beware + "Deals Too Good To Be True" usually aren't deals! Be sure you are dealing with reputable and licensed painters who carry worker's comp and liability insurance for all workers. In St Johns County it is simple to check licensing at the St Johns County Government site with either business or individual names. Just search St Johns County Contractor Licensing and use the search function. Many painting businesses are available in Jacksonville, St Johns and Palm Coast; it is a very competitive market. We always advise our clients to get 2 or 3 guaranteed price quotes, not "estimates" that can suddenly go up and choose the company you believe will do the best work for the price. Be sure the brand of paints and type of products to be used in all areas are identified and appropriate for the area being painted. Ask who will be doing the actual painting; many clients are surprised to find the work being done by day laborers or "subcontractors" who are literally hired for a day or two and then gone. Be sure you understand who will be doing the work in your home and who will be supervising. We use our employees, paid by Refresh & Renew payroll, fully covered by Worker's Compensation, Liability and Unemployment insurances. Our crews are paid a fair wage on payroll, not paid on a daily cash basis. This is important because if someone uninsured is injured while painting in your home, they can hold the homeowner responsible. If you are having work done, ask if you can be named on the liability policy. This is a standard feature of liability and our policy allows for the homeowner to be named in coverage and protected from any liability incurred by our workers. We name our products, time and labor so you know exactly what you are buying. A $1200 whole-house paint job may seem like a good deal, it may even look good at the beginning, but it won't last and you will be repainting sooner Check the qualifications, licensing and liability insurance documents for any painter or trades person you have working in your home. St Johns County and Duval both require painting businesses to be licensed, provide proof of insurance, and cover ALL workers with worker's compensation insurance. Many quite simply do not follow these regulations.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
We recommend they do a bit of homework about paint brands and products, explore colors and sheens and use the tools the Internet makes readily accessible to homeowners. Make sure to understand the basics so you know what is included in your estimates or quotes.
