Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our pricing is reasonable and reflects the quality of service we provide. We are a fully legal business that pays taxes, carries liability insurance to ensure top-quality service, and covers the high fees associated with leads from this app. We are legal immigrants, and while our English may not be perfect, our hands are skilled, and our work speaks for itself. Our pricing takes all these factors into account. We focus on rewarding loyal clients. Customers who call us repeatedly and trust our work benefit from the best prices as a token of appreciation for their loyalty and support. However, we do not offer discounts to new clients. If you schedule multiple services in a single visit, we can offer better pricing compared to single-service calls. While individual service prices might seem higher, combining services in one visit allows us to adjust the total cost more favorably.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

We are a family business with a deep-rooted passion for construction and handyman services. My name is Franklin, and I grew up watching my father work in construction. By the age of 10, he had me working alongside him, learning valuable skills in my home country. Later, I migrated to Texas and then to California, where my uncle, a highly respected General Contractor in the Bay Area known for his major projects and perfectionism, continued to mentor me. At just 15 years old, I became an expert in tile installation. My uncle, with his high standards, often made me redo the same tile eight or nine times until it was perfect. This rigorous training shaped my expertise and attention to detail. Over time, while still working with him, I started taking on my own clients, always with his approval, and began taking courses to further refine my skills. Now, I’m close to completing the exam for my General Contractor license in California. Despite this, I remain committed to my handyman clients and the personalized services they trust me with. Our family business has grown, thanks to my stepson’s exceptional painting skills and the support of two relatives we’ve trained and mentored. My wife, who holds a Tax Preparer license, has a Master’s in Human Resources, and a passion for organization, works part-time with me. She manages bookkeeping, garage and pantry organization, and handles all documentation, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Her skills as a professional organizer bring an added layer of excellence to our services. Together, we are a dedicated team passionate about delivering quality, reliability, and care in every project.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with all kinds of customers, each bringing unique experiences and challenges. Some clients prefer to keep a low profile and don’t allow photos of our amazing work, while others are perfectionists or even a bit anxious. We've encountered wonderful, hardworking people as well as clients who can be a bit disrespectful, but every experience has helped us grow. We’ve had the honor of working with people from different races and cultures, respecting their customs, like removing our shoes before entering their homes. We've also worked with clients of various religions, ensuring we honor their practices and preferences. One of our memorable projects was remodeling a bathroom for an English professor from UC Berkeley, who corrected my English throughout the project (shared by Franklin). Additionally, we've worked with real estate professionals who call us at the last minute for urgent repairs or Airbnb emergencies. No matter who the client is, we approach every project with respect, professionalism, and dedication.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
When hiring a provider in our line of work, it’s important to choose someone you trust and feel comfortable communicating with. Here’s our advice: Be patient and respectful: Skilled work takes time and care, and treating your provider with respect helps build a positive working relationship. Value experience over titles: Handymen often bring years of hands-on experience that can surpass textbook knowledge. While we may not have formal degrees, we’ve spent countless hours perfecting our craft through real-world projects, learning directly from challenges, and mastering practical solutions. Don’t underestimate the value of experience—it often makes all the difference in delivering quality results. Do your research: If you're hiring a General Contractor, make sure they have a good reputation and pay attention to how they manage their subcontractors. Unfortunately, we’ve experienced a situation where a General Contractor collected the payment for a project but did not pay us, the subcontractors. The homeowner later found out and reached out to us directly for another project. Out of respect for professional boundaries, we declined the new project until the previous matter was resolved. Thankfully, the homeowner understood and worked with us to find a fair solution. This experience taught us the importance of working directly with homeowners whenever possible to ensure transparency and fairness. Communicate openly: Clear communication ensures expectations are aligned, and any concerns can be resolved quickly. We share this story and advice to remind homeowners to stay vigilant, value experience, and work with professionals who pride themselves on integrity and respect for their clients.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
When planning to discuss your project with a professional, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of your expectations and goals. Here are some key questions to consider: What is my timeline for the project? Think about how soon you need the work completed. Be realistic and understand that quality work takes time. Rushing can lead to errors or compromises in quality. What are the exact measurements and details of the project? Whether it’s a renovation, repair, or new installation, having accurate measurements and clear details helps the professional plan and provide an accurate estimate. If you’re unsure about the specifics, ask the professional to assist with measurements during their visit. What is my budget, and what are my priorities? Know what you’re willing to spend and what aspects of the project are most important to you. This allows the professional to recommend the best materials and solutions within your budget. What level of involvement do I want in the process? Some clients prefer to be hands-on, while others trust the professional to handle all decisions. Decide how much you’d like to be involved and communicate this upfront. What are my expectations for the final result? Be clear about your vision for the project. If you have specific ideas, photos, or examples, share them. This ensures the professional understands your expectations and can provide suggestions or adjustments if needed. Are there any restrictions or preferences I need to share? For example, if you prefer eco-friendly materials, have a specific design in mind, or require work to be done at specific times, it’s important to communicate this. What is the plan for unexpected issues or changes? Projects often come with surprises. Discuss how the professional handles unforeseen issues or changes in scope to avoid confusion or delays. How will we communicate throughout the project? Establish a clear communication plan, such as regular updates, texts, or calls, to stay informed and address concerns promptly. Taking the time to think through these questions ensures a smoother, more productive conversation with your professional and sets the stage for a successful project.
