Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Customers tell us we are very competitive. They also tell us that no one else is taking the Whole house approach the way we do. We are trained to find the maximum savings and improvements for our clients. We offer 10% military and senior discounts.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We will perform a free initial consultation which includes a whole house inspection (low level). This will help us identify areas of concern including cold rooms, hot rooms, allergies to airborne particles moving around from unconditioned spaces into the conditioned space including: pollen, dust, mold and so forth. We will write up a scope of work based on the DOE (Department of Energy) guidelines. This write up will include PROPERLY air sealing before insulating as well as inspecting and including any issues related to the HVAC system, duct work and ventilation. We take the "Whole House Approach" to improving your homes "Energy Performance".

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We maintain a current business license in our service area for our profession. In addition, we are trained as BPI (Building Performance Institute) building analysts. This set of certifications includes the IDL (intrusion detections leakage) certification for HVAC systems. This enables us to isolate any issues with the HVAC, document and repair the same. In addition we are engaged in the RESNET certification and Energy Star process and can provide ratings for both if needed.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My journey into building science started right out of college. I've been passionate about all aspects of building science. In particular, the areas of energy savings and comfort. My passion for energy performance has driven me to become one of the best certified and most educated professionals in my field.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Home owners are my main customers so far. Although, I am also able to assist small business owners with their energy needs as well. On average, I improve my residential customers's energy performance by 25% while improving air quality and comfort by eliminating cold / sick rooms.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I was recently sent out to quote replacing blow in insulation with lay in insulation. Instead of just quoting what the customer said they wanted, I asked enough questions about their home and comfort levels to determine that they needed air sealing much more than they needed insulation. I showed the home owner (through thermal imaging) the way air was moving through their walls and how we would resolve the bigger problem at hand. In the end, the "Whole House Approach" improved their indoor air quality, increased their comfort and lowered their energy bills for life!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Ask for their certifications in this field. Their are a lot of companies that are just quoting what home owners say they need instead of providing an analysis and a scientific solution that includes air sealing and indoor air quality issues.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Are there hot and cold rooms in my home? Are there people in my home suffering with allergies? What are my average energy bills in the coldest and hottest months of the year?
