Introduction

I’m rare because I love fixing central air systems, gas fired furnaces, and evaporative coolers. Most companies just want to sell you a new one. I’ve repaired, replaced, or maintained 25,000 units in my decades of working on HVAC. If you need a repair, then you, your friends, and family got “ your HVAC guy”! I doubt anyone has more on-the-job experience, better pricing, or professionalism than Happy Valley. I have a commercial mechanical contractors license and insurance in case my customers want something new and more efficient or parts are no longer available.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

It’s impossible to know what to charge my customers until I know what’s wrong with their system. My pricing; considering my on the job experience is extremely fair. $130 checkups

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I always educate my new customers. I enjoy telling my customers how their appliances work and the sequence of operation. I also don’t mind them watching me because I know what I’m doing unlike newer technicians.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I’ve been in the HVAC industry for 20 years. I also have an associates degree in architectural, drafting and construction technology, a diploma from Redstone college for commercial HVAC, and a commercial contractors license.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I moved from Wisconsin to Colorado in 2001 and couldn’t find a job doing computer-aided drafting. My wife and I drove into Red Rocks Amphitheater and I decided to work there for the Summer changing out kegs of beer for their shows and movies. It turns out that beer doesn’t pour well when not cold. So I went to Redstone College for a diploma in HVAC with the intention of fixing walk-in coolers. Not too long into my HVAC courses my teacher got me a job fixing residential furnaces, central air, evaporative coolers, and water heaters. And that’s what I’ve been doing ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I worked for a national HVAC company the past 17 years mostly doing repairs on forced-air furnaces, central air systems, water heaters, and evaporative coolers. My customers were mostly 3rd party which means I got to see a lot of different units throughout the years. I’m a pro at diagnosing and repairs but have a commercial mechanical license to do installs too.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I put 100% into every HVAC job I’m involved in. My favorites (because not too many companies do them) are heat exchangers (3-5 hours) and compressors (2-3 hours)

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I’d tell the customer to find someone with years of experience to fix their unit(s). Fixing something is one thing, but the experience to know by sight and sound is a different animal.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Customers should always do what’s best for them. How long do they plan on staying in the home and how old their units are/efficiency should matter most to my customers.
