Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge an $80 service fee which includes the initial diagnosis. If the customer choses to move forward with the repair, the service fee will be waived. All pricing for repair work will be clearly communicated to the customer up front.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Licensed HVAC contractor with a PhD. in Aerospace Engineering and a NARS training graduate. I've taken multiple advanced classes in heat transfer and thermodynamics and have designed and built industrial gas heat exchangers for high speed hot wire anemometer testing. I've also sized systems and designed ductwork for many residential and commercial applications in northern WV as a part of a former family business.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I am very thankful for my brother in law, who first introduced me to this work. He was a very patient and talented craftsman with many years experience in the trade. Under a small business, we serviced and installed countless systems across northern WV as I also pursued my graduate degrees. In 2008, I graduated college and left the business to take an engineering job in Huntsville. Over the years, I formed a rental home business on the side and decided to get HVAC licensed in order to service my own systems. I began taking night classes for HVAC (NARS) and quickly remembered how much I loved the trade. After graduating NARS, I returned to HVAC and decided to offer my business to others.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I service residential systems for single family homes, condos, and apartment complexes.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure to hire someone who pays attention to detail and is not in a hurry to get to the next job. With continued advances in efficiency (thinner metals etc), modern systems are more prone to failure if they are not serviced coorectly. Also, look for someone that is thorough in their diagnosis to avoid unnecessary repairs.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
First check to make sure your air filter doesn't need replacing and all vents are clear. This is a common problem that does not require a professional and can save the customer a lot of money.
