Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
It really depends on which service line the customer is needing. Our standard price for a mold inspection is $150. If we perform the necessary remediation work, we will credit the $150 inspection fee back to the customer. Standard pricing for residential air duct cleaning is $30 per supply or return branch line, $95 per system and $85 per system to fog the air ducts with an anti-microbial disinfectant agent. This is only performed at the customer's request. Dryer vent cleaning are based on termination points. If the exits ground level with the dryer, it's a standard charge of $150. If the vent exits overhead, say through the soffit on the first level which requires working from a step ladder, the charge is $185. If the dryer vent terminates through the roof or side of the house where working off an extension ladder is required, the charge is $220. Mold removal estimates are provided on a case by case basis. No two jobs are the same. The same goes for emergency water clean-up. Depending on whether the customer is filing an insurance claim or not dictates the type of pricing structure used. Most of these type jobs cannot be estimated on the front end, as layers of water damaged building materials are only uncovered as these materials are removed. The objective is to mitigate the water damage, dry quickly to minimize additional damage and eliminate mold growth potential.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Once our office staff has established the service need required, one of our professional inspectors or estimators will come to your home or business and assess any damages or cleaning procedure required. Most residential air duct duct cleaning customers can be provided an estimate over the phone. Once our service professionals have assessed your needs, an inspection report or estimate will be provided as quickly as possible. Sometimes depending on the service required, time is of the essence.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I'm licensed in the state of North Carolina as an HVAC Contractor. We're certified through NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaning Association) for air duct cleaning. NADCA holds us to a set of standards when performing air duct or dryer vent cleaning. The same standards apply to our commercial clients as well. We are also certified through MICRO as a certified mold remediation contractor as well as a certified mold inspection company. We are also certified through the IICRC (The Clean Trust) organization for emergency water-clean up, structural drying and Fire and Smoke restoration. We are also a Safe Lead Abatement company certified through the EPA. All certification numbers can be provided to our customers upon request.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I'm a licensed HVAC contractor by trade and always saw the need for air duct cleaning when replacing HVAC equipment. Especially when replacing rooftop equipment for schools. The air ducts were often coated with 2" of dirt, debris and sometimes mold growth. No one had ever heard of cleaning the ducts back then. It wasn't an option. Now with the new age of internet, technology has caught up with the need for a healthier breathing environment and the public is in the know more so now. It's been an educational roller coaster for our customers from the old days and the demand for cleaner air has finally peaked.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We work with all residential customers Commercial customers such as Real Estate agents, brokers Hvac Contractors Building Contractors Government Facilities Pest Control Companies Plumbing Companies Facility Maintenance Companies Manufacturing Facilities Medical Facilities such as Hospitals and smaller medical office buildings

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Just completed mold remediation and air conditioning equipment replacement for a non-profit building in Wilmington. It was very rewarding to be able to provide these valuable services to a company that will also be providing services to our local community. It's all part of giving back to our community.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Find out how long they've been in business plus check their reviews. There are a lot of other good companies out there that provide the same services we do but there are just as many bad. Buyer beware of the low dollar duct cleaning scams. These companies off a very discounted rate to clean your air ducts, then up-sell you on items for your a/c system that you very well may not need. It's referred to the old "Bait and Switch" tactic. No professional air duct cleaning company can clean your air ducts properly for the $99 or less cleaning specials you see in the newspaper ads.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Cause of damages? Amount of damages or services needed? Will you be filing an insurance claim? Timeline requiring services? How will payment be rendered?
