How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been in the service industry for over 20 years, and I met my Marsha, now my wife, and her dad had started the AC business decades ago. My father-in-law retired, and his middle son took over. I started subcontracting from him in 2012. Well, now my brother in law has gotten married, and moved out of the country. His goal is to retire as well, so it's was time for me to start my own AC business and continue to care for all of my awesome clients I had gained through the years.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I do my best to work with anyone and everyone. My heart feels for those that are older or elderly, as well as those with infants, and I'll do everything I can to take care of them, no matter the time of day/night, etc.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
An elderly client had an issue with her AC not cooling the home. She had the installing company come out, and they said nothing was wrong. I was the third company that went out, based on a referral from her son, and found that the installing company didn't install what they charged her for, and just added freon and charged her for it, but didn't address the leak in the system.
The company didn't register anything, so the parts had only a 5 year warranty. The manufacturer told me that the system was 5 years and 4 months old, so technically out of warranty. Thankfully, I have great relationships with my distributors and manufacturers, and was able to get the parts covered under warranty for the client. I was also able to work with her being on a set budget with social security.
It took about 2 days of research, etc. to make this happen for her.
She and her son were ecstatic, and very grateful.
The project would have costed the client about $2800, but I was able to help them and she only had to pay about $600 in total.

Pro Tip: Don't rush the selection. Take time to research and compare multiple providers to find the best fit for your specific HVAC needs.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
When preparing to discuss an HVAC project with professionals:
What are your specific comfort concerns? Think about issues like hot/cold spots, humidity problems, or noisy operation.
What's your budget for the project? Consider both upfront costs and long-term energy savings.
Are there any rebates or special offers available? Research potential tax credits, utility rebates, or manufacturer discounts.
What size and type of HVAC system is appropriate for your home? Consider factors like square footage, insulation, and local climate.
Do you have any indoor air quality concerns? Think about allergies or other respiratory issues that might require additional solutions.
How old is your current system, and what problems have you experienced with it? Be prepared to discuss its maintenance history and performance.
Are you interested in smart home technology or energy-efficient options?
Consider if features like programmable thermostats are important to you.
What's your timeline for the project? Think about when you'd ideally like the work completed.
Do you have any preferences for specific brands or technologies? Research options that interest you beforehand.
Are there any structural or aesthetic considerations? Think about where units can be placed and how they might affect your home's appearance.
By considering these questions in advance, customers can have a more productive consultation and ensure their HVAC professional has the information needed to provide the best recommendations for their specific situation.
